Proceeding from the classification of data mining and knowledge discovery, this paper discusses the relationship between Data Mining （DM） and Knowledge Discovery （KD） in depth. There are 3 viewpoints about the relationship between DM and KD, that is, DM is KD, DM is a step of KD, and DM is entirely different from KD. The 3 viewpoints are all reasonable. It depends on the research background, research scope and goal of the researchers. Finally, the paper discusses the development trend of DM and KD.
