1997年8月13日，重庆荣昌发生5．3级地震，这是重庆成立直辖市后发生的第一次破坏性地震。本文介绍了本次地震的现场工作部署、地震趋势判定、震灾损失评估以及现场宣传报道等的决策和作法，反映了政府职能部门在防震减灾中的积极作用。
An M5. 3 eathquake occurred on Aug. 13, 1997 in Rongchang, Chongqing City. The seismological field works, countermeasures for this earthquake, the judgment of seismicity, the assessment of earthquake loss, some work of both propaganda and report for this earthquake are introduced. The city govenment departments play an important role in the earthquake disaster relief.
