On Higher Education's Function in the Strategy of Sustainable Development

适应我国社会、环境与经济可持续发展面临的严峻形势,高等教育的作用集中表现在为可持续发展战略服务上。为此,高等教育通过知识贡献和创新,努力成为经济社会发展的"能源库;"通过人才培养,承担起为经济社会的发展输送合格人才尤其是可持续发展人才的重任;通过传承和创新文化,引领社会文化和谐发展;充分利用高层次人才集中且学科互补的优势,发挥在推动可持续发展进程中的参谋与智囊作用。

For adapting to the grim situation faced by our society, the environment and sustainable economic development, the role of higher education is expressed concentratedly for serving the strategy of sustainable development. Therefore, the higher education strives to become the economic and social development of the ＂energy bank＂ through knowledge contribution and innovation; and it assumes for the economic and social development providing qualified personnel, especially the heavy task of sustainable development personnel through fostering of talent. Through succession and culture of innovation, higher education leads the development of social and cultural harmony. And it plays the general staff and think-tank role in the process of promoting sustainable development by taking full advantage of high-level talents and disciplines complementary strengths.
