This paper aims at a general survey of the immanent bases and relevance of hypallage. Based on relativism, presupposition and Chomsky＇ s theory of deep structure, the paper is an attempt to explain why the epithet can be transferred from the appropriate noun to modify another to which it does not really belong. And the paper is a further attempt to mount a probe into the immanent relevance between the newly transferred epithet and the noun it modifies.
