In May 2008, China＇s interbank market had a smooth run for foreign exchange, money, bond, interest-rate and exchange-rate derivatives. Shibor went up slightly and asserted its benchmark role. Turnover of interest-rate and exchange-rate derivatives expanded considerably. The RMB/USD exchange rate hovered around the 7-mark and then dipped; the RMB appreciated by 0.76% against the USD in May.
