A Comparative Study of Food Metaphors in English and Chinese

隐喻是语言构成的基本形式,研究隐喻可以帮助我们了解人的认知结构,以及人在自身的发展过程中对语言的认识、构建和使用。以莱考夫等人的当代隐喻理论为基础,从认知角度对汉语和英语中与"食物"相关的隐喻进行比较,并提炼出这方面的概念隐喻。探讨汉语—英语"食物"隐喻的共性和个性,寻求其普遍性和差异性存在的原因,很有意义。

This paper gives an introduction of Lakoffian＇s contemporary theory of metaphor, and then attempts to base on it to compare Chinese and English metaphors in terms of food metaphors and identify and abstract conceptual metaphors about them from a cognitive perspective. Chinese and English food metaphors have both universality and variation. The analysis also discusses the reasons for the universality and variation.
