Statistical analysis reveals that urban residents' preferred occupations are mainly those in which they themselves are relatively concentrated, such as government officials, teachers, and scientific researchers. Their least preferred occupations are mainly those in which migrant workers are relatively concentrated, such as the construction industry and the hospitality industry. The category of social distance between the two groups is mostly medium or remote. There is a certain level of asymmetry in their evaluations of social distance. Social distance is greatly influenced by differences in social status, cultural differences, spatial segregation, and informal institutions. Social distance between urban residents and migrant workers has been diminishing continuously, and a degree of social integration between them has occurred.
