Now China′s optical disk data banks are not enough in quantity, but high in quality. Many data banks of CD ROMs are Abstract s and bibliographies, and are mainly used to do retrieval, SDI, retrospective search in scientific research, the acquisition and cataloguing of documents in western languages, etc. The paper introduces the environment of preserving and using optical disks, the index of evaluating optical disk preservation life, etc. in details and, says that the optical disks should be rerecorded in 10 to 20 years to ensure that the optical disks output exactly.
