On the Researches in the Chinese Frontier

中国边疆研究方兴未艾,硕果累累,但对"边疆"概念的界定,学术界不无分歧。边疆史研究尤其如此。欲界定"边疆",应把握其特征。边疆的主要特征是文化,突出表现于社会生活方面。基于此,研究中国边疆史,应将边疆文化,将边疆社会生活作为研究重点;应进行边疆文化与内地文化的比较研究;研究方法、思维角度应做适度调整。

The research on the Chinese frontier is in the ascendant, and has made the great achievements. However there are still some differences in defining the term ＂frontier＂ in the academic field, especially in the research of frontier history. It is important to recognize the features when defining the term. The major feature of frontier is culture, which is reflected in social life obviously. Therefore the frontier culture and social life are the important content in the research of the Chinese frontier. It is necessary to compare the frontier culture with interior culture. Also it is necessary to adjust research method and the angle of thinking.
