On Cultural Context and its Influences on the Meaning of Words and Phrases

文化与语言有着密切关系。语言词汇是最明显的承载文化信息、反映人类社会文化生活的工具。英汉语言中许多词汇都带有特定的文化信息。探讨文化语境诸因素对词义的影响,对语言教学有着重要意义。如果只学习语言材料而不了解文化背景,则只是抓住了躯壳,并未领悟其精髓。

Language is closely related to culture. Words and phrases, many of which imply special cultural information, are the tools which are influenced most sensitively by the cultural lives. The cultural effects on the meanings of the words and phrases will be discussed in this article to help the college teachers pay more attention to the cultural factors in their classes.
