A parametric approach to Centering Theory

向心理论是关于语篇局部连贯性和代词化的理论,要应用这一理论,并检验其论断的正确性,必须对其中的一些基本概念作明确的界定。本文主要介绍Poesio等(2004)提出的参数化研究方法,比较不同的参数设定对该理论的运作所产生的影响,并讨论这一研究方法的意义和一些可改进之处。

Implementation of Centering Theory(CT)and evaluation of the claims it makes in accounting for local coherence and pronominalization in discourse crucially hinge on the specification of the basic concepts and notions adopted in the theory,such as 'utterance','discourse segment','realization','salience' and 'R1-pronoun'.This paper introduces Poesio et al.'s(2004)parametric approach to CT,presents and compares the major results of its different instantiations,and suggests ways in which it can be further improved.
