Robert Frost employs a twentieth-century "tone" while retaining more traditional poetic structures in his poems. He achieves a distinctive grace by combining simple spoken language and conversational rhythms together with traditional verse forms. This paper explores four aspects of Frost's poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay"-diction, use of monosyllabic words, syntactical structure and sound patterns. The present study concludes that while this poem appears to have a simple organization and to limit itself to colloquial language, at a deeper level it expresses profound philosophy. While enjoying the poem's vivid description of nature, the reader also comes to realize the truth that "nothing gold can stay. "
