Canon and the Empire: Said's View on Canon

爱德华·萨义德是后殖民批评的开拓者。同时,他对文学经典的形成及解读提出了许多重要观点,但是学界鲜有论述。本文试图从萨义德的文学理论与文学批评实践中发掘和整理其有关经典形成及释读的论述,辨析其经典观。萨义德指出,英国小说经典形成与帝国扩张有着同时、共谋性的关系,并提出"对位阅读法"是阐释英国文学经典卓有成效的方法。本文认为,萨义德关于英国殖民时代文学经典的形成与解读的观点具有相当的解释力,是世界文学经典理论的重要组成部分,值得认真研究。

Edward Said is recognized important view on how literary works as pioneer of Postcolonial criticism, but unfortunately, his are canonized and how to interpret them has not been paid adequate critical attention. This essay attempts to reveal and sort out Said＇s view on canons among his literary theories and his interpretation of English canonical works. Suggesting that canonization of English novels coincided and complied with the expansion of British Empire, Said proposes contrapuntal reading as an efficient way to interpret British canons. We believe that Said＇s view on canonization and interpretation of canons has formed an integral part of world＇s theories of literary cannons, and therefore, should be carefully studied.
