As a major river in Datong City, Yuhe runs along outward of East Gate from north to south. Being the eastward gate, it has been a long history to build bridges over Yuhe. It is known from archeology excavations and literature cites that building bridge over Yuhe started in Jin Dynasty. It was a five-arches stone bridge, which was named "Xingyun Bridge" during repairing in Yuan Dynasty. After more than four hundreds years by going through Yuan Dynasty and Ming Dynasty, Yuhe Bridge of Jin Dynasty had its foundation removed and rebuilt to a 19-arch stone bridge in Wanli 8th Year, still called Xingyun Bridge. It collapsed in Qing Dy- nasty Jiaqing Period.
