从市场上购买浆板的造纸厂早已认识到钢丝的危险性。最明显也最经常发生的问题是在强大的拉伸压力下，钢丝会突然断裂，其尖锐的断裂末端如碰到措不及防的工人，便会造成刺伤或者割伤。另外也曾有报道钢丝和搬运浆板的叉车车轴摩擦产生火花从而导致火灾。
Paper mills receiving market pulp are familiar with the hazards associated with wire. The most obvious and chronic problem is when wire under tension breaks causing soft tissue injury. Mill personnel tasked with removing the wire run the risk of serious puncture or cut injuries from rebounding or whipping wire. Wires have also been known to be the cause of fires having wrapped around the axels of tow motors and igniting combustible materi als.
