Consolidation of the pulp and paper industry into larger entities has had its influence in global investments, especially for the production of market pulps. The investments and mill sizes have become ever larger when targeting the best possible return investment. The clear trend is towards purchasing larger scopes from a single supplier. This development has also rapidly changed the requirements set on the suppliers serving the pulp and paper industry. To meet this trend, Metso decided to acquire the pulping and power businesses from Aker Kvaerner.
