This paper, from the definition of causative, confirms the scope of causative and expounds its form and meaning. It deals with the syntactic, transitivity and ergativity analysis of causative within the theoretical framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics, concentrating on the ergativity analysis. Some new ideas on ergativity analysis are given in the paper, which are more hierarchic and more suitable for the terms＇ correct identifier. sis
