Representing the Soul of Women and Reflecting the Reality Indirectly——An exploration of the psychology of Tang authors in creating human-ghost romance

唐代士子在小说创作中,所以钟情于人鬼恋题材,既基于对五姓婚、门阀婚的反抗情绪,更体现了文人传统的艳遇情结。而对女性或艳丽绝代、出身高贵或丑陋妖异、害人性命两种极端形象的塑造,则反映出男权中心社会的女性想象。

Tang literati＇s fascination for creating human-ghost romance was based on their traditional romance complex and represented their protest against marriage alliance between families of equivalent status. The portrayal of two extreme types of females gorgeous and noble women and ugly and cruel ones represented the female image of women in a male-dominated society.
