On the Features and Social Functions of Contemporary Western Non-Governmental Organizations

当前,非政府组织在国际社会中发挥着越来越大的作用。非政府组织在西方起源并率先发展,现已颇具规模,成为当今国际事务中不可忽视的生力军。受其影响,我国的非政府组织自20世纪90年代以来也迅速发展不断壮大,但是在其发展过程中也产生了一些问题。本文旨在分析西方非政府组织发展特点和变化趋势、积极和消极的社会功能,并在此基础上加深对中国非政府组织的理解。

At present, non-governmental organizations （NGOs） have been playing a more and more important role in the international affairs. NGOs, originated in the west, have developed rapidly on a large scale and have exercised their influence over international social affairs. Under their influence, China＇s NGOs have been growing rapidly since the 1990s, which have also brought about many problems. This is the motivation for the present authors to conduct an analysis on the development, tendency and the positive or negative social effects of Western NGOs, with an aim to gain a better understanding of the NGOs in China.
