Fuzzy Language in Newspaper English and its Pragmatic Functions

语言是人们最重要的交际工具,它既具有精确性又有模糊性。通过新闻报刊英语实例,结合语言学理论,从构成语境的各种变动的因素可探讨模糊语的成因及其语用功能。

Language is the most important communication device of human being. It can be accurate and vague as well. We all know that fuzziness is a common language phenomenon in English newspaper. Based on first-hand examples from English newspaper and magazines, this paper analyses vague language from the linguistic point of view, aiming at the knowledge of the formation of fuzzy language and its various pragmatic functions.
