Objective To explore the expressions of survivin and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) expression in non-familial colonic adenomatous polyp and adenocarcinoma to provide the theoretical supports for predicting the oncogenesis of adenomatous polyp. Methods Immunohistochemical staining was conducted to detect the expressions of survivin and VEGF protein in 40 adenomatous polyps, 40 adenocarcinomas, and the normal mucosal controls. Results The expression levels of survivin and VEGF from high to low ranged as follow: adenocarcinoma, adenomatous polyp, mucosal control for adenocarcinoma, and control for adenomatous polyp. Conclusions VEGF plays an important role in the proliferation of adenomatous polyp cells, carcinogenesis, formation and growth of adenocarcinoma, and angiogenesis, survivin may be a promoting factor in the development and oncogenesis of colonic adenomatous polyposis and has critical significance in predicting carcinogenesis of adenomatous polyposis and in intervention with chemotherapy.
