本文在简要论述因特网Ｉｎｔｅｒｎｅｔ对社会巨大影响的基础上，介绍了中国教育和科研计算机网ＣＥＲＮＥＴ的发展历程，包括ＣＥＲＮＥＴ示范工程的总体建设目标、设计原则和建设策略、具体建设内容和主要技术特点，特别给出了ＣＥＲＮＥＴ在各方面的新进展。本文还讨论了ＣＥＲＮＥＴ未来的巨大应用需求。

The global Internet have now become an ever so powerful information instructure in many countries,and really exercises a great influence into all of the would.This paper introduces the progress of China Education and Research Network (CERNET),including its overall objectives,strategy of planning,technical characteristics and implementation of the first phase.The paper also look forward its great penitential expansion,and implementation of the second phase.
