Nationalism in the Middle East is both a political and cultural trend of thought. Its rise has close connections with the colonial activities in that area. These colonial activities gave rise to the appearance and development of nationalism in the Middle East while nationalist activities contributed to the termination of these colonial activities. In these Islamic countries, nationalism had some common points in spite of it various forms. Its complexity was the result of the mixture of history and reality. As a cultural trend of thought, it found full expression in the literary works of the Middle East countries, exerting far-reaching influence. It vigorously supported the nationalistic political campaign in the Middle East, led to the liberation movement for democracy and independence and promoted the development of modem countries in this area.
