The Three-Thousand-Year Anniversary of the First Route to Xiyu by Emperor Zhou Mu

本文以时人对西周王年的研究和对《穆天子传》的研究为据,肯定了三千年前(即公元前994年),周穆王为我国历史上开通西域的第一人。文中侧重论述了《穆天子传》的内容与性质、历史文献价值,并认为《穆天子传》是周穆王西行实录,应属于历史记实散文,是一部珍贵的历史文献。

We would like to take Emperor Zhou Mu, the fifth emperor of the Zhou Dynasty in China, as the first man who accomplished his expedition to Xiyu （ Xinjiang, China） by making a full study of The Bibliography of Mutianzi, a famous and controversial book in the Chinese history. The results of the study indicate that Zhang Qian （An envoy in the Han Dynasty. ） is not the first man who visited Xiyu in history. In addition, the paper presents an elaborate discussion in detail of the excavation, the date and the author, the content and the nature, and the value of the document.
