This article described symptoms of bacterial blight on Piper betle Linn. in Hainan province. On the basis of investigation concerning morphology, staining reaction, cultural characteristics, physiological and biochemical properties and host range, the pathogen of bacterial blight was identified as Xanthomonas campestris pv. betlicola （ Patel ,Kulkami et Dhande 1951 ） Dye 1978.
