清末民初潮汕留学浪潮述略

A Review of the Tide for Chaoshanese to Study Abroad in the Late Qing Dynasty

清末民初全国出现了轰轰烈烈的留学热潮,这股热潮也自然波及到潮汕地区。当时有众多的潮籍学子留学外洋。他们满怀救国图强的爱国热情,在国外广泛地吸收新知,努力学习先进的科技、文化和民主思想。回国后,他们兢兢业业,发挥自己所学之长,为祖国的近现代化建设奉献自身的力量。同时他们积极投身家乡的社会改革,启发民智,在潮汕地区的近代化过程中起到了不可忽视的作用。

In the late Qing Dynasty, a roaring trend of studying abroad appeared nationwide. It naturally spread to Chaoshan area, from which lots of learners studied overseas at that time. With great patriotic passion of saving the country, the learners tried their best to learn wide-ranging new knowledge including advanced science and technology, culture, and democratic thought. After returning to their motherland, they worked hard and contributed themselves to the country＇s modernization construction. Meanwhile, they threw themselves into the social reform of their hometown and brought new science there, bringing an important effect on the process of modernization in Chaoshan area.
