Meteorologic data from satellites have been used in China in non meteorologic fields, such as vegetation and disaster monitoring, food production, fishery, cartography and global change studies. For AVHRR data application in global change study, several issues on data processing are addressed in this paper. The authors also look forward to utilizing data from the new FY 1 satellite to be launched soon by China.
