基于功能的英汉语情态隐喻对比研究

Metaphors of modality in English and Chinese:A contrastive study

本文从情态隐喻句式的非一致式、英语情态动词与汉语能愿动词、名词化与及物过程的转换、情态隐喻与情态的主客观取向系统、情态的三级量值等几个方面进行英汉语情态隐喻对比研究,以便为汉语情态研究提供一种新视角。从形式上讲,英语和汉语都有情态句法的非一致形式,但英语更多采用形合手段,因而更为清晰;汉语更多采用词汇意合手段,因而较为模糊。从功能上讲,英汉语都有情态隐喻用法的情况。

This paper constitutes an attempt to provide a new perspective for studying Chinese modality.A contrastive study is conducted of metaphors of modality between English and Chinese in terms of syntactic variations,nominalization and transitivity alternations,subjective and objective preferences of modality.Research shows that both English and Chinese have incongruent forms of modality.The incongruent forms of modality in English usually exist in the hypotactic clauses,whereas the Chinese counterparts normally appear in the paratactic clauses.From the function point of view,there exists the same phenomenon that form,meaning and function of metaphors of modality are not equivalent in either language.
