Different Pronunciations of MC Finals Jia Kai San with Initial Jing Groups vs.Yi in Northern Shaanxi Province

陕北晋语假开三精组和以母今韵母不同。从主元音的音值看,精组字以中高元音[eεI i]为主,以母字以低元音[A aα]为主。结合地域分布来看,陕北东部临黄河西岸的方言点以低元音[aαA]为主;中部(无定河、延河中游)的方言点以半低、半高和高元音[eεI i]为主。本文认为,当语音以"词汇扩散"的方式演变时,既会造成语音演变在不同方言的不平衡,也会造成在同一方言不同音类的不平衡。

In Jin dialects in northern Shaanxi province MC finals j/a kai san 假开三 with initial ring 精 groups vs. yi 以 feature different pronunciations. From the perspective of the value of main vowels, MC initial jing group represents mid-high [e ε I i] as opposed to the low [a α A] in yi. From the perspective of regional distribution, the dialects in east Shaanxi along the Yellow River mainly feature [a α A ], those in the middle part feature mid-low, mid-high or high [e ε I i]. This paper argues that pronunciation change in lexical diffusion results in imbalance in different dialects as well as in different phonological of the same dialect.
