The China Education and Sports Supplics Association (CESSA) predicted that the Beijing Olympics will further promote Chinese people's consumption of sports supplies. It estimated that the sales volume of sports supplies in China will reach RMB 80 billion (US$11.4 billion) in 2008. China will become the second largest market for sports supplies only next to the United States.
China exports fewer shoes in first 5 months China sold fewer shoes abroad in the first five months of this year, due partly to reduced export tax rebates, continuous RMB appreciation, and weaker demand from the United Stales and trade barriers such as anti-dumping lawsuits, the Gen- eral Administration of Customs said on July 25. Belween January and May, China exported 3.39 billion pairs of shoes, a de- cline of 3.6% from the same period of last year. This was in contrast with the 11.1% growth in the January-May period of last year.
