Houses in the poems of Robert Frost always situate themselves in the remote New England countryside far away from modem cities, leaving to the readers a strong sense of lonely regionalism. Yet the regional restriction is transcended by its metaphor and cultural implications, with which Frost explore the changes of home under the impact of modem scientific and industrial development. This paper analyzes these and the social ethnics of home in the poetry to the effect that the poet, with his faith in individualism and self-reliance, holds fast to notions of dualism and balance in the matter of social ethnics of home. He emphasizes the importance of neighborly bond and the necessity of balance between self-reliance and philanthropy.
