In July 2008, the Shanghai Gold Exchange （SGE） recorded transactions worth of 96.738 billion yuan, up 271.5% year-on-year. The proprietary trade and agent trade reached 56,737 billion yuan and 40.001 billion yuan, respectively. The SGE traded 450677 kilograms of gold, up 204.14% year- on-year. The trading value of gold stood at 93.342 billion yuan, soaring year-on-year by 287.34%. Platinum traded in July totaled 5280 kilograms, up 83.08% year-on-year. The trading value of platinum was 2.294 billion yuan, up 143.16% year-on-year. The trading volume of silver shrank year-on-year by 27.71% to 268.28 tons. The trading value of silver reached 1.102 billion yuan, up 10.6% year-on-year.
