1979年的中国文学艺术工作者第四次代表大会,在当时全面拨乱反正还在进行之中,第一次全面总结新中国成立30年来文艺工作的经验教训,明确党在新时期的文艺指导方针,提出新时期文学艺术的任务,有力地推进了文艺界乃至整个思想界拨乱反正的进程。本文探究这次大会的来龙去脉,特别是通过184期未公开的会议简报,详解大会讨论情况和澄清的重大问题,展示文艺界拨乱反正的曲折历程。

The Fourth Congress of Chinese Writers and Artists held in October 1979 when the nationwide struggle for bringing order out of chaos was still in progress summed up for the first time experience and lessons in literary and artistic work in the thirty years since the founding of the PRC, made clear the guiding principles of the Party and put forward the tasks for literature and art in the new period, thus forcefully promoting the process of bringing order out of chaos in the literary and artistic fields and even in the whole intellectual circles. This paper probes into the whole story of this Congress from beginning to end and, with the aid of the classified 184 conference bulletins, gives a detailed account of the discussions at the congress and matters of vital importance clarified and reveals the twists and turns in setting things to rights in the literary and artistic fields.
