In the Common Reader, Virginia Woolf shows us a Jean Austen of talent and distinctiveness in carefree and romantic words;and when it comes to George Eliot, she presents a woman of humble birth hut of perseverance. The former romantic text is telling an ideal with a heavy heart; the latter realistic one shows a woman's struggle with an admiration. Simultaneously Virginia Woolf, through her piercing insight of a novelist and commentator, shows the enviable achieve ments obtained by the two. All in all,Virginia Woolf, the feminist, displays her protest against the patriarchal soclety, her sympathy with the oppressed women and her desire for the ideal society.
