Schleiermacher’s Influence on Contemporary Western Translation Theory

By analyzing Schleiermachers influence on Reiss of functionalist school,Venuti of deconstruction school and Steiner of hermeneutic school as an example, this paper argues that Schleiermacher has a significant impact over the theory of contemporary westem translation. His impact is multi-dimensional and dynamic; his influence on later translation theories is not a coincidence but a result of the translation theorists＇ active pursuit for a new theoretical guidance.
