The process of the sulphonating reaction of polystyrene was described. The effects of sulphonating agents, solvents, catalyst and temperature on the reaction were investigated. It is shown that the home or hetero geneous sulphonating products were dependent on the reaction conditions. This is of important advantage for comprehensive utilization of the waste polystyrene foamed plastic.
