The composition of Ambush on All Sides adopts the means of realistic expression in traditional operas and the type of traditional Chinese novels with each chapter headed by a couplet giving the gist of its content to display sueeessfuUy the magnificent scene of fighting on the ancient battlefield. The Emperor Discards His Armor is also composed with the same means but the difference is it is eomposed in the stand of the emperor, expressing mainly the heroic spirit of the emperor of the Chu State and the bravery of the Chu army men.
