嵇康《與山巨源絶交書》非絶交之書論

Ji Kang’s "Breakup Letter to Shan Juyuan" Is Not Actually a Breakup Letter

嵇康《与山巨源绝交书》，自今存文本观，不见明确绝交的任何言辞及语气；自早期相关历史资料考察，亦不见嵇康与山涛之间曾经绝交的任何记载；自嵇康与山涛二人全部关系分析，亦无“绝交”之任何事理；故而此书实非绝交之书；嵇康与山涛之间，实未尝发生绝交之事态。嵇康撰写此书意图，只是表明不愿出仕心志、拒绝山涛“举康自代”之议。至於本文篇名作“绝交书”，既与文本内容不符，亦不合历史事实，盖后人所拟。其所拟时间约在南朝刘宋之后。

The existent texts of Ji Kang’s "Breakup Letter to Shan Juyuan" show no words or moods about Ji Kang’s inclination to split with Shan Tao,and there are no records about their diffidation in the historical sources concerned as well.Besides,the analyses of all their relations do not show any reason or cause for the breakup of their friendship.Thus,we argue that Ji Kang did not split with Shan Tao at all,and the so-called "Breakup Letter" is not the letter to break up with Shan Tao,but to refuse Shan Tao’s recommendation and to show his refusal to enter policies.The title "Breakup Letter",inconsistent with its contents and historical facts,might have been generated by the people after the Song of Southern Dynasties.
