Successful use of problem-based learning in medical microbiology course

在医学微生物学教学中,采用细菌学、病毒学各论进行PBL教学,课堂讨论主要分为课前讨论、课堂发言、教师小结、课后反思等步骤。学生对教学效果的评价,多数学生认为病例合适、课堂组织较好、整体收获较高。不同小班由不同教师带教,学生整体收获差异不大。

Objective： To investigate how to use PBL in medical microbiology course and to evaluate the effects of PBL courses. Methods： Bacteriology and virology were selected to use PBL teaching. Cases about typical diseases caused by typical microbe were discussed. The PBL course includes several steps： discussing before class, presenting in class, summary by teachers and rethinking after class. 178 students were divided into five classes taught by different teachers. Data were collected by means of a questionnaire. Results： Most students agree that the cases are appropriate; PBL enhances their gathering information from various sources; and they could learn a lot in the curriculum. Different classes taught by different teachers show similar results. Conclusion： It is successful to use PBL in the bacteriology and virology courses. Teachers in PBL course are not as much important as in traditional courses.
