Autobiography is an interpretative, flexible and tentative genre which presumes the meaning - generating in the narrative process. Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Written by Herself by Harriet Jacobs challenges the ethical norms of morality and cultural value by breaking through the narrative ethically. Empathizing with the autobiographical narrator, Jacobs deconstructs the paradox between the general disciples of literary writing and the free expression of narrating life experiences. Utilizing and rectifying the black narrative, she creates a new type of slave narrative with a subversive strategy, the result of which publicizes the rational feature of her autobiography and her personality.
