论外交语言翻译的“政治等效”——以邓小平外交理念“韬光养晦”的译法为例

On Political Equivalence in Translating Diplomatic Terms:Tao Guang Yang Hui as Example

外交语言的翻译有别于其他领域的翻译,它政治敏感性强,要求极为严格。本文试以邓小平外交名言"韬光养晦"的译法为案例,借鉴奈达的"等效翻译"理论,并结合国际关系学、外交学分析视角,提出了"政治等效"翻译概念,认为"政治等效"是外交翻译的重要标准,并探讨了实现政治等效的原则和方法。

Diplomatic translation differs from other translations in that it is politically sensitive and therefore highly demanding. Based on Eugene Nida＇s Equivalence Theory and also in the light of International Relations and Diplomacy, this paper proposes ＂Political Equivalence＂ as a criterion in translating diplomatic terms, taking as a case study the translation of Tao Guang Yang Hui, literally ＂Maintaining a Low Profile＂, a well-known dictum made by Deng Xiaoping. The paper also attempts to come up with principles and methods to achieve Political Equivalence.
