The transformation of literature from modern to contemporary meant the change oT writers ' identity and functions restricted by the new nation. The writers, therefore, held the status, not only of writers, but more of "revolutionary cadres", "literary officials" or "literary soldiers". The double identity determined that writers must adapt themselves to the contradiction thus caused, and the tuner is the social class relation established by the nation. This paper will, with Ding Ling as a case of study, analyze how the hational ideology has restrained modem writers through the systemization of the writers' identity.
