Qianmen Commercial Street was first established at the end of Ming Dynasty and in the early of Qing Dynasty. In the past three hundred years, Qianmen witnessed the transformation of Lang Fang, small vendors' booths outside imperial city, to the first and the most prosperous commercial street in Beijing. With the flying times, especially the changes of commercial properties, the previous commercial street has unfortunately lost its historical capital style and taste. Consequently, Qianmen, a traditional and commercial center with typical Beijing style, has been vanished from memories of many people. Now there are conflicts in the usage, function and style in the reconstruction of the traditional historical street and the re-juvenilization of its business. The author is making an effort to research in architectural theory about how the imitated classical architecture to fit modern commerce, reconstructing and explore a modern Qianmen Commercial Street with historical and typical Beijing style.
