50 Landmarks in the Growth of the China Association for Science and Technology

2008年是中国科学技术协会成立50周年,为了向读者介绍中国科协50年来所取得的成就,本刊编辑部选择了中国科协发展历史上50个重要瞬间,以见证中国科协的发展历程。这50个瞬间分别为:①学术活动:5学会"文革"后率先恢复专题学术会议,"中国科协青年科技奖"设立,举办首届青年学术年会,创办青年科学家论坛,召开海峡两岸青年科学家携手迎接新世纪研讨会,中国科协确立年会制度,创立博士生学术年会制度,举办首届中国科协科技期刊优秀论文评选活动,启动实施"精品科技期刊工程",创办"新观点新学说学术沙龙",建立中国科协学术建设发布制度;②科普工作:《机械工人速成看图》出版并在全国推广,全国职工科普工作积极分子大会召开,举办科学家、劳动模范与首都中学生大型谈话会,召开全国科普创作座谈会,编纂出版《中国科学技术专家传略》,召开全国科学技术普及工作会议,联合举办全国青少年科技创新大赛,创立中国科协科技期刊与大众媒体见面会制度;③重要会议:中国科学技术协会成立暨第一次全国代表大会召开,中国科协第二次、第三次、第四次、第五次、第六次、第七次全国代表大会召开;④基础建设:《知识就是力量》创刊,科学普及出版社成立,北京科学会堂开放,中国科普研究所成立,《科技导报》创刊,中国科学技术馆建成,中国数字科技馆荣获联合国"2007世界信息峰会"大奖;⑤重大事件:科协组织得到全面恢复,参加世界工程组织联合会,恢复全国政协组成单位,胡锦涛总书记视察中国科技馆,确立"三服务一加强"工作定位;⑥重要法律(法规、文件):制订第一部《中国科学技术协会章程》,《中共中央国务院关于加强科学技术普及工作的若干意见》发布,《中华人民共和国科学技术普及法》颁布,"基层组织"被写入《中国科学技术协会章程》,《全民科学素质计划行动纲要》颁布实施,发布《科技工作者科学道德规范》;⑦重大活动(计划):设立"全国科普日",开展"科技工作者状况调查",启动实施"海外智力为国服务行动计划",举办世界物理年纪念大会,联合实施"科普惠农兴村计划",组织开展纪念中国科协成立50周年系列宣传活动。

The year 2008 sees the 50th anniversary of the China Association for Science and Technology （CAST）. The editorial department of Science ＆ Technology Review focuses on 50 landmarks in the growth of CAST, to show its brilliant achievements in the past 50 years. The 50 landmarks include that, ① Academic Activities： academic conferences organized by 5 of its affiliated societies, first of that kind after the Cultural Revolution; set-up of CAST Award for Youth in Science and Technology; the first annual conference for young scientists; the initiation of special forum for young scientists; seminar of young scientists from both sides of Taiwan Strait for the new century; the first annual CAST conference; appraisal of scientific papers published on CAST journals; initiation of workshop for new ideas in sciences; ② Science Popularization： publication of ＂How to read mechanical drawings for workers＂; the national conference of activists for science popularization; get-together between scientists, model workers and senior middle school students; forum of writers for science popularization; publication of who＇who for scientists and engineers in China; the national competition of science and innovation for youth; the first face-to-face between peoples from academic journals and mass media; ③ Important Conferences： the founding of CAST and the 1st National Congress of CAST; the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th National Congress of CAST; ④ Organization Build-up： Publication of journal ＂Knowledge is Power＂; Establishment of Science Popularization Press; Opening to public of Beijing Science Hall; founding of China Research Institute for Science Popularization; publication of Science ＆ Technology Review; founding of China Science ＆ Technology Museum; World Summit Award for China Digital Science ＆ Technology Museum; ⑤ Significant Events： CAST joined the World Federation of Engineering Organizations; CAST resumed its place in CPPCC; Chinese President Hu Jintao visited China Science ＆ Technology Museum; ⑥ Laws and Regulations：Constitution of CAST was drawn up; Science Popularization Law of the People＇s Republic of China was published; ⑦ General Activities： National Science Popularization Day was set up; A survey on working and living conditions of scientists and engineers in China; the commemoration of the World Year of Physics; the program for ＂Helping Farmers and Revitalizing Countryside by Popularization of Science＂; a series of promotional activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of CAST.
