Return to Practice and Return to Understanding: Viewing the Transformation of Educational Research Paradigm in USA from the Close of the School of Education of Chicago University

由于杜威的缘故,芝加哥大学教育学院在美国教育研究领域具有重要而独特的象征意义。然而1996年,已有100多年历史的芝加哥大学教育学院却被迫停办了。本文通过回顾芝加哥大学教育学院的办学历史,分析了芝加哥大学教育学院在不同时期所采用的教育研究范式。透过芝加哥大学教育学院的兴衰,我们可以看出教育研究应该遵循什么学术标准、采用哪种研究范式。

Because of John Dewey, the School of Education at the University of Chicago （SEUC） plays an important role in the field of educational research in the U.S. and has its unique symbolic significance. But 100 years later in 1996 it has to be closed. Through reviewing its history, two factors causing its closure and paradigms it had embraced, we can find some signs indicating the transformation of educational research paradigm in America-from theoretical to practical, from ＇improvement＇ to ＇ understanding＇.
