历史的回顾在人类文明的发展史中,桥梁占有重要的一页。我国桥梁技术曾经有过辉煌的业绩,我国古代的石桥和铁索桥都长时间地占据世界领先地位。18世纪英国工业革命造就了现代科学技术,使欧美各国相继进入现代桥梁工程的新时期。1779年英国第一座铸铁拱桥柯布鲁克代尔(Coalbrookdale)桥(跨度30.65米)的诞生标志着西方用天然材料(木、石)建造桥梁历史的结束,1801年伦敦泰晤士河上跨度达183米铁拱桥的建成代表着18世纪西方建桥技术的最高成就。

Ancient Chinese Bridges have enjoyed high prestige in the world' s bridge history. The founding of new China, especially with its reform and policy has made the rapid development of Chinese bridges. In order to accept a challenge of sea-crossing engineering projects, it is necessary to make well the preparation in earlier stage, and to strive for entering into the ranks of strong bridge countries in the 21st century.
