In The Waves, a novel both highly praised and severely criticized for its unique literary form, Virginia Woolf embodies the artistic form of life in the image 'a globe with walls of thinnest air',in which 'walls of thinnest air' refers to the most important emotional moments in the life narrated by a transcendent memory, while 'the globe' refers to the wholeness of emotions and thought presented by cuboid scenes, structures and characters. This writing mode transcends the superficiality of the materialist writing, which not only expresses complicated human emotions but penetrates in to the core of life.
