Rationalism and Constructivism: Beyond Rivalry,Toward Synthesis

理性主义与建构主义是国际关系研究的两种不同的分析框架,它们在物质因素与观念因素、后果性逻辑与适当性逻辑、方法论个体主义与方法论整体主义等方面存在差异。但是,这些差异为两者的理论对话与综合提供了可能。经验研究是两者进行理论对话的桥梁,适用领域的互补策略和时间先后的互补策略则是我们综合理性主义与建构主义的两种策略。

Rationalism and Constructivism are two different analytic frameworks in international relations study.Their differences lie in material factor versus conceptual factor,the logic of consequences versus the logic of appro- priateness,and methodological individualism versus methodological holism.These differences,however, make possible theoretical dialogue and synthesis between rationalism and constructivism.Empirical study can bridge rationalism and constructivism.Complementary strategies in the domain of application as well as in the sequencing of time are two strategies in the synthesis of rationalism and constructivism.
