地块的北侧是六本木大道．从北侧到东侧是环状3号线．西侧是被称为朝日电视台大道的辅助10号线，该地块就处于上述干线道路所夹着的位置。
The total area of Roppongi Hills is approximately 11.6ha 11ha of which was built upon as a part of the redevelopment project. Before construction a 3ha area was laid out for the TV Asahi broadcast center, which had been operating since 1958. A number of mid-size and smaller buildings stood in the industrial and commercial districts alongside Roppongi Street on the north, and TV Asahi Street on the west while a residential district spread out on the south side These residences on the south were mainly apartment houses built by the Housing Corporation in 1958 or densely built low-rise residences. In particular, the low, wooden residences in the valley district were built along extremely narrow streets only 4 meters wide; fire brigades and other emergency vehicles had great difficulty in entering these areas. The whole area had been facing environmental and disaster prevention problems for some time.
