Objective To observe the clinical therapeutic effects of edaravone on acute cerebral hemorrhage. Methods 60 patients with acute cerebral hemorrhage according with the diagnostic criteria were randomly divided into two groups (the trial group and control group). Routine treatments were used in patients of the control group according to the extent of the cerebral hemorrhage. On the basis of routine treatments, patients of the trial group were given each 30 mg of edaravone dissolved in 250ml of 0.9% sodium chloride solution administered by intravenous instillation, bid, for 14 consecutive days. The neurological functional deficit scores and assessment of the therapeutic effectiveness in patients of both groups were carried out at 28 days after the termination of the treatment course. Results In patients of the trial group, the neurological functional deficit scores was 18.6:L-6.7 before the treatment signitlcantly dropped to a low value of 9.4±5.3 (P〈0.05) 28 days after the termination of the treatment. In patients of the control group, the pre-treatment the neurological functional deficit scores was 19.4±10.4 dropped to a post-treatment value of 15.6±9.7 (P〉0.05) 28 days after the termination of the treatment; but no significant difference. The post-treatment neurological functional deficit scores in patients of the trial group were significantly lower than that in patients of the control group (P〈0.05). No major adverse reactions were encountered in patients of the trial group. Conclusion Edaravone may efectively improve the nervous function in patients with acute cerebral hemorrhage.
